Whiskey Cookers Screening: October 4

Here’s your chance to get a free screening of “Whiskey Cookers: The Amazing Story of the Templeton, Iowa Bootleggers.” Based on Bryce T. Bauer’s award-winning book, “Gentlemen Bootleggers,” the film explores the true story of Templeton’s citizens defying the laws in the time of Prohibition. After the screening, there will be a Q & A session with director, Dan Mannat. Plus, we’ll be there with hors d’oeuvres and of course, a bar. Admission is free, but we anticipate a full theater, so online reservations are encouraged. For more info, check out the Facebook event page

History on the Rocks: Prohibition: October 18

While the traveling exhibition, “Spirited: Prohibition in America” is on display at the State Historical Museum from September 1st through October 20th, we’re diving into the era with History on the Rocks! From 1920 through 1933, America was dry. Well, if you don’t count the many bootleggers and speakeasies. Central College historian, Lori Witt, will discuss the many ways Prohibition affected the country. Joining her will be Teresa Albert, of Millstream Brewing Company, which is Iowa’s oldest microbrewery. Tickets are just $10 in advance and $15 at the door! Head to the Facebook event page for more info.
